There were a few reasons why we chose to go with PMC speakers for our Dolby Atmos room. The journey started when we first went to view the speakers at the PMC showroom in London. We were quite simply blown away by the quality of what we were hearing in the showroom and lets face what is a showroom for. It’s to show of the speakers to the clients in the best conditions so that they buy them. Well it worked. I was amazed by the sound quality and said to myself if I get this sound in my own studio that would be incredible.
Another reason was that to meet Dolby’s spec 100%. I needed to ensure I met all the required measurements and specs on Dolby’s sheet. This made the Ci Series all the more perfect for our room as it allowed us to build thicker walls with more acoustic treatment in them. The Ci Series speakers aren’t as deep as speakers that sit onto speaker stands. The largest of the Ci Series speakers the Ci 140’s are only 180mm deep. A standard speaker on a stand would sit about 400-500mm off the wall. This allowed us to gain an extra 300mm plus on all 4 walls.
Here’s a good reason… Look at them. They look unreal. I have never really been blown away by how studio speakers look. Especially ones that are on stands. However the Ci Series mounted into walls look amazing. You add the two Ci 140 subs either side of the centre speaker you have a 7 speaker wall of sound in front of you. Which sounds out of this world and has some serious punch.
You just can’t go can’t wrong with PMC. There is a reason they have been in the business for so long and are known as one of if not the best speaker brand in the music industry. Their speakers are seriously good. They sound amazing and are so well built. We are really pleased to have chosen PMC.
One thing that is really important to mention about the PMC Ci Series is that they are perfect for Dolby Atmos for a number of reasons. For me the main reason being how wide the sweet spot is. You can walk around my Dolby Atmos room as though you are in a sphere or a 3d cube. It’s hard to explain but most speakers you move outside of the sweet spot you know about. Things start to sound weird. It does not matter where you stand in my room, you feel like you are in the sweet spot, almost like you are walking around exploring sound within the room.
Lastly everyone at PMC is so helpful. The day down at the showroom was a real eyeopener. Answered every question and went through all the different configurations that would be possible. Since installing the PMC speakers we have been in regular contact with the UK team who have been to visit the studio and see the speaker system in action.
