In this series of videos we will be interviewing and being interviewed by various different industry professionals. This weeks podcast we had the pleasure of talking with Colin McDowell engineer and CEO of McDSP. Colin such an interesting character and that really shows in this interview. We lift the lid on the APB and Colin talks us through the signal chain. How it works and why it works so well. SX Pro have been gracious enough to issue us with a 10% coupon code that can be used up to October 31st. Information this below.
10% Off Coupon Code: APB-10
1. Firstly please tell us about what the MCDSP APM is?
2. Can you show us inside the APB and explain what the signal path is?
3. How does it differ from let’s say UAD DSP plugins?
4. How is it possible for a compressor, an EQ and saturation to all utilise the same components. How can each compressor sound different yet utilise the same components?
5. Some viewers voiced their concerns of longevity of the APM system. What would happen if let’s say a new thunderbolt connection came out. Is there a possibility to adjust the boxes connection?
6. Will Windows compatibility be something you will introduce in the future?
7. I had a dream one night you had built a MCDSP summing console that was bright green and included APB’s for each channel. Could this be possible?
8. A major selling point I see with the APB is that you buy 1 box for the price of a good EQ or compressor and you have an ever growing expansion of tools to use on it. Do you get all the current plugins and future plugins free with it?
9. Are there any new plugins in the pipeline you can talk about?
10. Some comments on our APB review expressed that it is crazy expensive at £4000 for the APB-8 and £6000 for the APB-16. Would a 2 or 4 channel be something you’d consider. Or an interface with the APB built into it?
11. Any final words you’d like to say on the APB?
