In this video I discuss my opinion on if the Fabfilter Upgrade is worth it. I think it is 100% worth the upgrade. You do get a lot of additional features for the money. Spectral dynamics with attack and release is a huge addition. I have been using this for the past few days and it’s made great improvements to my sound. The EQ as a whole sonically sounds better. Character can now be changed from clean, subtle and warm. Warm sounds brilliant. Overall the improvements made to Pro Q4 are well worth the upgrade.
NEW FEATURES
Spectral Dynamics – Advanced Spectral dynamics processing, to effectively and precisely treat problem frequencies in your audio. This features is by far the best feature that has been added. It has so many uses. You can use it to soothe problematic frequencies as well as enhance frequencises in a very musical way.
Character Modes – Use the Gentle and Warm Character modes to add analog warmth to your mixes. This is a really nice added feature that has quite a subtle impact. But very noticable across the entirety of the mix. A welcomed addition.
EQ Sketch – EQ Sketch: just draw the desired EQ curve in one go to setup initial EQing. Probably my least favourite feature to have been added but that’s only because as a professional I like to use more advanced approaches. This feature will be very useful for people who just want to get roughly to where they think the EQ curve should look. It works very well.
Instance List – Work fast and efficiently: use the Instance list to view and control any other Pro-Q 4 instance in your session. This is a very beneficial feature for anyone who is using Pro Q4 on every channel of the mix. It is beneficial to just see what EQ is applied to each channel instantly from within one plugin.
