THE PARALLEL EQ CONCEPT
When adding saturation at the mastering stage we would always feel like we couldn’t push the signal as hard as we would have liked due to the increase in gain applied. The parallel EQ concept works by adding as much saturation as you desire with one EQ and then using a parallel EQ to attenuate the same bands.
Resulting in the signal becoming thicker and more saturated without any of the gain increase. A totally unique concept that has never been done before in the analogue domain. A dream EQ for any mixing or mastering engineer.
DESIGNED BY AUDIO ANIMALS
The Hendy Amps Michelangelo XL EQ was originally designed by Audio Animals as a one off unit originally called The Audio Animal. Chris at Hendy Amps loved the sound of the unit so much that he wanted to release it as an official Hendy Amps product. Now called the Hendy Amps Michelangelo XL EQ due to the fact that it is an expanded version of the original Michelangelo EQ.
HOW DOES IT SOUND?
Experience the exceptional sound quality and versatility of this EQ in action. It provides an extensive range of EQ options, allowing you to push the settings without ever compromising the audio quality. Regardless of the source, it consistently delivers an impressive, refined sound.
In this video, observe how we utilize the tube EQ and MOSFET EQ to achieve distinct tonal objectives. Pay particular attention to the added punch and clarity that the MOSFET EQ brings to the audio. This EQ consistently impresses with its dynamic impact and performance.
KEY FEATURES
- 4 Band EQ (low / Mid / High / Air)
- Tube & Mosfet EQ
- Independent Trim For Wet/Dry Mix Of Tube & Mosfet
- High Cut
- Vintage Mode
- Parallel EQ
- Switchable Frequencies (low / Mid / High / Air)
TUBE EQ / MOSFET EQ
The tube EQ section located at the top of the EQ is very clean and full of warm rich tones. Use the tube EQ to balance and enhance the audio source in a clean and musical way.
The mosfet EQ section is a lot more aggressive compared to the tube section. The mosfet EQ can be used to add saturation and an overall grittier more aggressive sound.

BUILT BY CHRIS AT HENDY AMPS
Built in the USA by Chris Henderson of Hendy Amps to the highest grade of excellence, using on the very best components the industry has to offer. The build quality like all Hendy Amps products is impeccable.
As one of the leading audio equipment manufacturers in the world of pro audio, Chris was tasked with building something that had never been done before. To execute something total new and unique is no easy task.
FEATURES
- The BYPASS switches allow the user to completely disengage the Michelangelo at any time in order to properly A/B a mix (true bypass).
- The TRIM control allows the user to mix between the tube and mosfet EQ. Turn the mosfet trim to 0 and use the Michelangelo XL as an original Michelangelo tube EQ.
- Left and Right CALIBRATION is used to gain match the Left and Right signals, accounting for any volume discrepancies encountered. Interestingly enough, these calibration controls can also be used to alter the tonal response of the Michelangelo if so desired. For example, it is possible to bring the Calibration volumes up and the Trim down, resulting in the Michelangelo driving the signal harder than normal, increasing harmonic content.
- The AGGRESSION control alters the drive in the circuit, allowing you to push the tubes for extra saturation.
- The LOW, MID, and HIGH controls manipulate the three EQ bands, but in a way that adds more dynamic, harmonic content the higher the EQ is set. Take note that the Mid control covers a massive amount of territory while the Low and High controls are narrower by comparison.
- The AIR control boosts the ultra high frequencies and is typically a favourite control in this unit.
- LOW SHIFT changes the Low control in order to target all frequencies below 150hz or 80hz.
- MID SHIFT alters the response of the Low and Mid controls, essentially assigning the low mids to either control.
- HIGH SHIFT changes the High control in order to target the frequencies above 1khz or 2khz.
- The VINTAGE switch toggles between a “modern” mode (think more hifi), and a “vintage” mode (darker, older sounding).
- LoZ/HiZ alters the output impedance of the Michelangelo in order to dial in either a more coloured tone (HiZ) which ill interact with gear following it in your chain, or a more clean tone (LoZ) which is largely unaffected by gear following it in your chain.
- High Cut rolls off the high end, which can be used to shape the air allowing you to drive the air harder without increasing the gain too much.
